A GUIDE FOR CUSTOMERS OF

Visayan Electric

Solar installation, configuration and after-sales support by Cheap Solar Cebu. Utility names and logos identify service providers; no affiliation or endorsement.

A SOLAR PLAN THAT STARTS WITH YOU

Solar for your daily bill. Storage for the interruption.

Solar panels can supply part of your daytime electricity use. Brownout protection requires a separate design decision: a compatible inverter, battery storage and an installation that safely isolates your backup circuits from the grid. Ordinary grid-tied panels shut down when utility power fails, even on a sunny afternoon.

Start with what would disrupt your household most. A home office may prioritise its computer, lights and router; a family may choose fans and a refrigerator. Cheap Solar Cebu can help turn that list into a system brief, with roof suitability, daytime consumption and essential loads considered together. Keeping a router powered does not guarantee your internet provider stays online.

Assumes a full charge, 80% usable capacity, 90% conversion efficiency and no solar recharging. Inverter standby consumption is excluded.

Capacity × 1,000 × 0.8 × 0.9 ÷ watts

An energy illustration, not guaranteed backup. A site assessment must check inverter power limits, motor starting demand, reserve settings and the circuits connected for backup.

The refrigerator is treated as running continuously; real cycling changes runtime and startup surges are excluded. Powering a router does not guarantee service from your internet provider.

THE LOCAL PICTURE · VECO

Make a plan for Metro Cebu brownouts.

Power interruptions do not all have the same cause. On 15 May 2026, the Philippine Information Agency reported that Visayan Electric had activated manual load dropping and its Interruptible Load Program during Visayas grid supply constraints. That report describes a dated event, not today's grid status or an outage forecast for your street.

Visayan Electric also publishes service interruption notices. Check the official service-advisory page for your exact area and date, then plan around the circuits you need. Solar and storage can reduce an interruption's impact at your property; they do not prevent a utility outage or promise unlimited backup.

01

Cebu City & Mandaue

For homes, offices and shops: identify daytime equipment use and the handful of circuits that keep work moving. Confirm roof access before sizing a system.

02

Talisay, Minglanilla, Naga & San Fernando

For southern Metro Cebu households: compare your daytime demand with your evening backup priorities, including refrigeration, lighting and ventilation.

03

Consolacion & Liloan

For the northern Metro Cebu corridor: use the provider on your electricity bill to confirm the right connection process and local interruption notices.

EXPORT CREDITS & BACKUP POWER

Understand Visayan Electric net metering.

Visayan Electric's net-metering program allows eligible renewable-energy customers to use their own generation and export surplus to the grid. Its published process includes application documents, signed and sealed electrical plans, equipment specifications, technical evaluation, inspection and metering before commissioning.

Use the utility's current requirements when planning your installation. Approval depends on its assessment of your proposed connection. Net metering addresses grid exports; battery backup addresses selected loads during an outage. Discuss both goals before choosing equipment, and ask for any application support and associated costs to be specified in your quotation.

BEFORE YOUR SITE ASSESSMENT

01

Bring your VECO bill

Share recent monthly kWh consumption, your location and when the house is occupied. Redact account identifiers from any public message.

02

Choose what stays powered

List essential appliances and the hours you need them. Flag air conditioners, pumps and motor loads so their startup demand can be assessed.

03

Make room for a proper survey

Prepare roof photos and your electrical-panel location. Shading, roof condition, cable routes and battery placement all shape the final proposal.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Solar for VECO.
Your questions, answered.

Know what to ask before
you make your decision.

01Will solar panels keep my home running during a VECO brownout?

A standard grid-tied system will not. Backup needs suitable equipment and safe grid isolation. A properly designed hybrid solar and battery system can power selected circuits, within its inverter output and available stored energy.

02How much battery backup do I need for my Cebu home?

Size it from your essential appliance loads and desired backup hours, not the peso total on your VECO bill alone. Usable battery energy, charge level, conversion losses, sunlight and simultaneous loads affect runtime. Ask for an appliance-based estimate with those assumptions stated.

03Where can I check VECO scheduled power interruptions?

Use Visayan Electric's official service-advisory page linked below. Match the notice to your barangay, street and date. For a fault or an interruption not listed, contact the utility through its official contact page.

04Can I apply for net metering with Visayan Electric?

The utility lists qualifying residential and commercial renewable-energy customers as eligible to apply. Your installation and connection still require its review. Check the official net-metering page for current forms and steps before committing to an export-capable design.

05Is this the right solar guide for every Cebu address?

This page is for Visayan Electric customers in its Metro Cebu service area. Other Cebu addresses may be supplied by MECO or a CEBECO cooperative. Check the utility named on your bill so your proposal follows the correct connection process.
