Lapu-Lapu City
Share your barangay, roof photographs and a recent MECO bill. Identify a work area or family room to prioritize before considering whole-home backup.
For a home in Lapu-Lapu or Cordova, solar starts with two questions: what can sunlight power each day, and what should stay on when MECO supply is interrupted? Build your plan around both.

A SOLAR PLAN THAT STARTS WITH YOU
MECO identifies Lapu-Lapu City, including Olango Island, and Cordova as its franchise areas. Check the utility name on your bill before requesting a proposal.
Ordinary grid-tied solar stops supplying power during a brownout. Its anti-islanding protection prevents electricity feeding into lines that crews may be repairing. Panels alone do not provide dependable backup; specify a compatible battery, backup-capable inverter and safely isolated essential circuits.
Start with the room that matters most: a fan and lights for the family, a refrigerator, or a laptop and router for work. A solar-and-storage system can support selected loads when configured for outages. The equipment and available charge determine what it can actually run.

Illustrative battery runtime
16.0 hours
At 225 W continuous demand
Assumes a full charge, 80% usable capacity, 90% conversion efficiency and no solar recharging. Inverter standby consumption is excluded.
Capacity × 1,000 × 0.8 × 0.9 ÷ watts
An energy illustration, not guaranteed backup. A site assessment must check inverter power limits, motor starting demand, reserve settings and the circuits connected for backup.
The refrigerator is treated as running continuously; real cycling changes runtime and startup surges are excluded. Powering a router does not guarantee service from your internet provider.
THE LOCAL PICTURE · MECO
MCWD recorded a Mactan Rock-MEPZ pump shutdown during a MECO power interruption on 22 May 2026. Its notice listed affected areas in Lapu-Lapu and Gabi, Cordova. This is a historical example of connected services, not a current outage forecast.
For your own household, separate electricity needs from water availability. Backing up a private pump cannot restore the public water supply. Discuss stored water, pump requirements and everyday essentials together when deciding what belongs on the backup circuit.

Share your barangay, roof photographs and a recent MECO bill. Identify a work area or family room to prioritize before considering whole-home backup.
For a coastal property, flag exposed roof areas and the proposed equipment location. Ask for mounting, material and warranty details appropriate to the actual site.
MECO includes Olango in its stated franchise area. Provide the exact location so access, transport and the electrical connection can be checked before a proposal.
EXPORT CREDITS & BACKUP POWER
Net metering concerns eligible renewable electricity exported to the grid and credited through the electricity account. It does not store energy for an outage. A battery stores electricity; backup operation also needs the right inverter and circuit arrangement.
Confirm current application, metering and interconnection requirements with MECO. Compare proposals using your consumption and applicable export-credit terms. Do not assume exports earn the full retail price shown on your bill.
BEFORE YOUR SITE ASSESSMENT
A recent bill gives a starting point. Add when the home is occupied, which appliances run during daylight and whether evening backup is the main priority.
List each appliance and its nameplate rating. Highlight refrigerators, pumps and air conditioners so starting demand can be checked instead of assuming every load will fit.
Send roof and electrical-panel photographs. Note shading and roof ownership. For shared buildings, establish permission and access before choosing equipment.
YOUR BILL. YOUR HOME. YOUR NEXT STEP.
Get an indicative system and price estimate for your MECO connection. Your final equipment, backup circuits and installation quote follow a site assessment.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY
Know what to ask before
you make your decision.
A standard grid-tied installation will not. Request an explicitly designed backup system with a compatible battery, inverter and isolated circuits. Ask the proposal to identify which appliances remain powered.
Include both in the essential-load list. Local backup can power your equipment, but internet service also depends on your provider’s network, so a powered router does not guarantee a working connection.
Explore the planner’s load and capacity choices, then request a runtime calculation for your actual appliances and proposed equipment.
No. Export credits are a billing arrangement, not stored backup power. Assess net metering for daytime surplus and battery backup for the circuits you want to support during interruptions.
